October 2016, the GGB Team
Throughout the month of October, GGB has been receiving thank you letters from our 9 Scholarship recipients in Vietnam. Our 10th recipient graduated in August from Agricultural Engineering. She is currently working in her home town in the organic agricultural field in Tay Ninh, Vietnam and taking care of her mentally ill mother.
The letters are so heartwarming and encouraging us everyday to continue the work that we do. We’d like to share two of them.
Hang Hoang, a senior at University of Economics:
Dear Generously Giving Back scholarship,
My full name's Hoang Thi Hang. I'm a senior student of University of Economics, HCMC. My major is Corporate Finance. My hobbies are reading financial news and detective novels. I also love travelling, singing and listening to music. I am passionate about participating in in social activities as well as joining in volunteer activities.
Today, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude to you for sponsoring and funding scholarships. I received 150 CAD in the scholarship award ceremony on the afternoon of Saturday 8 October 2016. I was very happy and thrilled to learn of my selection for this honour and I am deeply appreciative of your support.
I’d like to share with you my family. My family is poor. It has been about two years since my father died of cancer. My mother is a farmer. Because my father was always ill, my family has a lot of financial problems & difficulties, especially when my father passed away, my brother's just graduated and hasn't had a steady job, my sister and I are studying at school. My mother is suffering from vestibular disease and degenerative disc disease. So, I know that I must try my best in order to make my dream come true.
I’ve worked part time while studying in university. Previously, I worked as a tutor. Occasionally, I also sell at grocery and distribute leaflets. And now, I'm concentrating on work relating to my field of study: financial counselor. During my university time, I also used to support a lot of to help community such as “Relay season 2015”, “Funny full moon” through celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival for orphans and giving them gifts, and “Spring love 2016” through helping homeless people with a meal. That helped me understand more about the importance of education, about value of money. Therefore, I want to get a good job to make a lot of money. By doing that, I can help my family to leave the hard life and to be worthy of your help.
All these things motivate me to become a financial analyst in the future. Of course, a background in finance is important if I want to achieve my goal. My results are always maintained above the average. Besides, I also spend time learning English by myself.
I'm very grateful for all help that I've received. The help I received from the scholarship is not only financial support but also source of encouragement for me. The financial assistance you provide will be of great help to me in paying my educational expenses and it will allow me to concentrate more of my time for studying. Thank you for your generosity and helping poor studious students, such as myself, who are in financial need. I will study very hard to get the best results of my study. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.
I wish the Scholarship Fund will grow more. Wishing you and your family a good health, happiness and success in your job as well as your life. I hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Hoang Thi Hang
Hung Nguyen, a junior at University of Technology:
Dear Generously Giving Back Charity,
I am Nguyen Thanh Hung. I am Junior at VietNam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, University of Technology. I’m studying Petroleum Processing major, Faculty of Chemical Engineering.
Firstly and foremost, I would like to express my deep gratitude for Ms. Phuong [Susan Balcaceres] and “Generously Giving Back Charity”. I’m very glad and proud to receive GGB scholarship. It’s not only 150$ Canadian which I received, but also spiritual gift to I continue try more and more.
I was born and grew up in Vung Tau City. My mom and dad both died. So, I must be independent. After the school time, I usually teach some students at their home to earn income. I am an enthusiastic and responsible person. I always work with all my ability. So, many people love being with me.
I am also quite energetic. In my spare time, I have participated social activities. I joined many big campaigns such as Green Summer, Spring Volunteer, The Earth Hour… But the most meaningful activity is “ Companion Dream ”. This is the project teaching for visually impaired and homeless children. Because I lost the love by my parent, so I feel the loss of them. I feel very happy when seeing their smiles.
Through scholarship award ceremony, I had a better understanding of the scholarship. I feel the love of all people in the fund. I learned a lot from the previous generation. It truly is very valuable sharing.
At the beginning of the school year, I as well as many students faced a lot financial difficulties. Amount 150$ Canadian will help me somewhat overcome these difficulties. I promise I will use this money for the right purpose. Once again, I want to again thank you for your interest and support for me and generations of students to pass ahead of the difficulty period and can implement dreams, ambitions.
Finally, I hope that you will have good health and success.
Yours sincerely,
Nguyen Thanh Hung
