Support for Elderly Residents in San Salvador

Year:

2017

Location:

San Salvador, El Salvador

Beneficiary:

Seniors in Hogar de Adulto Mayor

Project Details:

In early 2016, Hogar de Adulto Mayor Ramón Meléndez, a nonprofit elderly care home located in San Jacinto, San Salvador, suffered a devastating fire that destroyed three rooms of its facility. The home provides daily care, shelter, and emotional support to approximately 20 elderly residents, many of whom have been abandoned or come from low-income backgrounds. The fire left the already resource-limited home in urgent need of infrastructure repairs, blankets, adult diapers, cleaning supplies, and other basic necessities.

In response, GGB's Goodwill Ambassador, Carlos Velasco, mobilized quickly to provide immediate relief. Volunteers coordinated the delivery of essential items to help restore comfort and safety for the residents, ensuring that their most pressing needs were met with compassion and dignity. This emergency outreach reflects GGB’s commitment to standing beside vulnerable seniors during times of crisis, and to honoring the caregivers who continue to serve with resilience and heart.

GGB’s support helped bridge a moment of hardship with hope, reminding us all that dignity should never be lost in disaster.
