Nourish with Love: Zambia Feeding Project

Year:

2017

Location:

Ndola, Zambia

Beneficiary:

Families at Mercy Touch

Project Details:

Founded in 2001, Mercy Touch operates children's homes for orphaned and abandoned children, offering shelter, education, medical aid, counseling, and family support. Their mission is to “touch families in need and impact their community one child at a time.” The organization also runs a weekly feeding program for malnourished children under five, a medical outreach clinic, and a skills development center for at-risk youth.

Beyond direct care, Mercy Touch promotes sustainability through farming initiatives, micro-loans, and small business ventures. They work in partnership with churches, Christian organizations, and volunteers to provide both spiritual and physical support. Their work is especially vital in a region deeply affected by poverty, HIV/AIDS, and the loss of extended family networks.

Under the compassionate leadership of Goodwill Ambassador Sandra Butters, GGB supported a feeding program that provided hot meals to vulnerable children and their caregivers. Mothers who brought their children to the program also received soya protein supplements to help improve their children’s nutrition and support healthy weight gain.

As part of this initiative, volunteers joined hands to prepare and serve nourishing meals, including nshima, a traditional Zambian staple made from finely ground cornmeal. This thick porridge is central to daily life and was served with care and dignity to those in need.

We are honored to stand beside their team and the children they serve, one meal and one moment of kindness at a time.
