Feeding Program in Oriental Mindoro
Year:
2023
Location:
Oriental Mindoro, Philippines
Beneficiary:
Children in Oriental Mindoro Island
Project Details:
Mindoro Island, home to both Occidental and Oriental Mindoro provinces, is rich in natural beauty and indigenous culture—but many of its children face daily struggles with hunger and malnutrition. In remote villages and underserved communities, feeding programs are not just helpful—they are life-changing.
Many of the children who benefit from feeding programs in Mindoro come from:
- Indigenous Mangyan communities living in mountainous and hard-to-reach areas
- Families affected by poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare
- Households where parents work in informal labor or agriculture with unstable income
- Communities still recovering from the impact of natural disasters and the pandemic
In places like Lantuyang Elementary School and Adong Mangyan School, children often arrive at school hungry, tired, and unable to concentrate. Malnutrition here is not just common—it’s severe, affecting growth, learning, and long-term health.
Feeding programs in Mindoro:
- Improve school attendance and learning outcomes
- Reduce illness and developmental delays
- Teach families how to prepare affordable, nutritious meals
- Foster values like gratitude, hygiene, and community care
Our goodwill ambassadors — Carlos, Minda, Susan, and Liem — led an initiative to support the feeding program in Montalban, Rizal. Their efforts provided essential food and supplies for the children. With the help of volunteers, we prepared a hearty community meal consisting of whole pigs, condiments and seasonings, rice, desserts, and beverages.
This initiative not only filled stomachs—it uplifted spirits.
