Food Relief in Tamal
Year:
2017
Location:
Kavrepalanchok District, Nepal
Beneficiary:
Families in Tamal Rural Municipality
Project Details:
Life in Temal Rural Municipality, including the village of Dagaun, is shaped by its mountainous terrain, Tamang cultural heritage, and limited infrastructure. Most families rely on subsistence farming and livestock, navigating steep slopes and unpredictable weather to grow maize, millet, and potatoes. Homes are modest, built from stone or mud-brick, and community life is rich with tradition—especially during festivals like Lhosar, which bring music, dance, and shared meals.
Access to education and healthcare remains a challenge. Children often walk long distances to understaffed schools, and health posts offer only basic services. Roads are mostly unpaved, and monsoon season can isolate entire villages. Despite these hardships, the people of Temal show remarkable resilience, with women playing central roles in family and community life.
Local initiatives and NGOs have begun introducing solar lighting, water tanks, and small-scale infrastructure, but needs remain high, especially for seniors, children with disabilities, and remote families. Temal is a place of quiet strength and cultural richness, where every act of support, whether a wheelchair, a food hamper, or a school supply, can make a lasting impact.
In October 2017, Kasim, owner of Padmanadi restaurant, personally traveled to Tamal Rural Municipality to deliver urgently needed food supplies to 82 families. Moved by the community’s needs, Kasim purchased rice, lentils, and other essential staples to help families bridge a difficult period. His hands-on outreach brought not only nourishment but also encouragement—reminding residents that they are not forgotten.
